Formatting panel

The Formatting panel lists everything you formatted from the Start tab - fonts, fills, borders and number formats - grouped by what carries the formatting. Open it with Start tab > Styles > Formatting (the button looks pressed while it is open).

The panel is for reviewing and resetting. To change a format, select the thing on the table and use the Start tab; the panel follows along while it is open - formatting something updates the list at once.

Three tabs

Each tab shows how many cards it holds. The panel opens on the tab of what is selected (a column selected: Columns; a row: Rows; a cell: Cells), and otherwise on the first tab that has something. Under the tab buttons a one-line hint explains the tab, and an empty tab tells you how to fill it.

TabWhat is listed
RowsEvery row that has formatting of its own, named by its label (the grand total is "Total").
ColumnsFirst, a First column section with Row labels and Header (the corner cells), then a Columns section with each formatted column, named with the group above it - for example 2023 · Sales.
CellsEvery single cell with formatting of its own, named by its row and column - for example Europe · 2023.

Only what deviates from the default is listed. A column that only has a custom width, for example, is not listed - a width is not formatting. What a row or column gives a cell is not repeated under the cell, either.

A card

Under its name a card shows a short summary - for example "Bold, Italic, Fill #00ff00, Borders, Currency". A header's settings are marked in it: "Header Bold, Header Borders".

Part of the cardWhat it does
The card itselfClick to open its settings and (in Focus Mode) select it on the table. Only one card is open at a time; a second click closes it.
X (top right)Resets the formatting of this item at once.
Select on the table (open card)Selects the row, column or cell on the table so the Start tab changes it. For a column of which only the header is formatted, it selects the header.
Reset formatting (open card)Takes this item's formatting away.

What an open card shows

Only the kinds that are set, one group each:

GroupLines
FontFont, Size, Style (Bold, Italic, Underline, Strikethrough), Color (with a swatch), Horizontal, Vertical, Wrap text
FillColor (with a swatch), with the opacity if it is not 100 %
BordersOne line per edge that is on - Top, Bottom, Left, Right, Inside horizontal, Inside vertical - with its style and width, for example Bottom: dashed · 2 px
Number formatFormat, Decimals, Units, and whatever the category has (Currency, Thousands separator, Negative numbers, Fraction digits, Format string)
Header · Font, Header · Fill, Header · BordersThe same, for the column's header - listed after the values' groups

What "Reset formatting" removes

Only the look: font, fill, borders and number format - of the values and, for a column, of its header. A column keeps everything else it has: its width, Financial Header, chart, visibility. Resetting a row, a cell or a first-column part removes its look only, too. Everything can be undone with Undo.

A card for something that is no longer in the table (a filtered-out row, a removed column) shows "(row no longer exists)" and can only be reset.

Behavior of the panel

  • It is one of the four side panels; opening another one closes it.
  • It closes when you leave Focus Mode.
  • It stays up to date while it is open: formatting, Undo, Redo and Reset all change the list.
